Light my fire zakka-style

Tips on how to make yourself a zakka-style heat-pillow.

zakka 1

  • Cut a piece of 50 cm times 30 cm linen.
  • Zig-zag all edges.
  • Embroider after your liking, you are welcome to use my heat-pictogram.
  • Sew the 3 sides, but leave a small opening at the middle of the long side to turn the piece around and to fill in the rice afterwards.
  • Fill the pillow with rice (or filling after your choice, just check that it will be able to go into the microwave).
  • Make sure not to stuff your pillow to tightly, as you have to bend the pillow on the middle to be able to fit it in the microwave.
  • Sew the opening shut, using tiny stitches.
  • Put in the microwave to heat up the rice - you will have to try out how much time your pillow needs.
  • Enjoy the heat! Either wear it at your shoulders or lay on it flat on the floor to stretch out your back or even use it to heat up your feet in bed at winter.

Besides keeping my shoulders warm, this is also my first entry to Whiplash. Wish me luck.

This is sure a lot prettier than the old tube sock I used! I read somewhere that you have to put a microwave-safe cup full of water in with it, or it could catch fire.
